Beefing up ACQI computing power through foundation generosity

The work being undertaken by ACQI-aligned staff and students will be greatly accelerated due to success with a recent grant application to the Charlie’s Foundation for Research, the foundational arm of Sir Charles Gairdner and Osborne Park hospitals. PhD student Jake Kendrick led the application that focuses on multiple applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in oncology, including:

  • prediction of response of cancer to treatment
  • development of learning-assistance for segmentation of disease
  • development of AI assistance for radiotherapy workflows that enable adaptation to changes in patient anatomy with time.

The generous grant of $27,000 AUD will be used to purchase two computer workstations, equipped with the most recent industry-level processors dedicated to data analysis. These will accelerate the large data processing tasks required as part of these studies allowing more accurate results to be obtained faster. We gratefully acknowledge the awarding of this grant and the supporters of the foundation.
